Smarter electricity supply - the key to sustainable industry in the West

Creating a regional node for energy transition
Industry is facing a new reality. With rising electricity prices, increased demands for flexibility in the electricity system, digital transformation and new EU directives, industry needs to think both new and together.
Innovatum Science Park and Chalmers Industriteknik are currently conducting a feasibility study to establish a collaborative node for electricity-flexible industry in Uddevalla, Trollhättan and Vänersborg. The project is run in close collaboration with the Production Technology Center (PTC) and focuses on how industry in the three cities can develop joint solutions for energy use, production, storage - and digitization.
With experience from Vårgårda
The feasibility study takes inspiration from the 3F project - Renewable, Flex and Business in Vårgårda. There, industry, the municipality and research actors have taken a joint approach to energy supply - with positive results on capacity through charging infrastructure, local electricity production, energy storage and concrete flex solutions.
- Now we want to create a similar effort in Uddevalla, Trollhättan and Vänersborg, with the goal of building regional nodes, where industry leads the transition to a more flexible and digital energy system," says Magnus Kuschel, Innovation Manager at Innovatum Science Park.
Opportunities to contribute and benefit
The feasibility study offers businesses in the region a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the transition - and enjoy tangible benefits such as
- help shape a major collaborative project planned to start in 2026
- access funding through Vinnova's 50 MSEK/year investment
- explore solutions in power management, energy community, charging infrastructure, local electricity production, energy storage, digital tools and flexibility in practice
- be part of knowledge-sharing networks on policy, cybersecurity, testbeds and digital twins
